Gain the skills and knowledge required to work as carpenter in the building and construction industry. According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, carpentry skills are in demand with employers finding it hard to fill vacancies for qualified carpenters and joiners. This is a very large occupation with around 69,000 job openings expected over the next five years.
In this course, you'll learn how to construct, install, finish and repair structures and fixtures for residential, commercial and industrial developments. You will work with a range of tools, equipment and materials to construct frames for walls and ceilings, construct pitched and advanced roofs and eaves, and erect and dismantle formwork for footings and slabs on the ground.
This course, delivered by our highly experienced and passionate teachers, will see you graduate with the skills that will allow you to become a qualified carpenter or joiner.

Domestic Students
The following selection criteria requirements apply only to domestic students:
To study an apprenticeship or traineeship program you must be indentured as an apprentice or trainee with your employer.
Employers need to be able to provide the necessary human and physical resources to qualify for an apprentice.
International Students
The following selection criteria requirements apply only to international students:
Applicants should be a minimum of 17 years of age and turning 18 during the first year of study with TAFE Queensland. International students who are under 18 years of age and are applying for a student visa are required by the Australian Department of Home Affairs to have adequate welfare arrangements in place. TAFE Queensland has entered an agreement with Union Institute of Language (UIL) to facilitate the provision of the welfare services (fees apply).
All overseas students are required to have Overseas Students Health Cover (OSHC) insurance for the entire duration of the course. The health cover rate will vary depending on the personal circumstances and duration of stay in Australia. Read more about Overseas Students Health Cover.
